Meet Neil!

Neil was recently surrendered to MARS. His family got him when he was a small piglet at 2 months of age and were not expecting him to grow to his size... and he's not done growing!

Mini pigs average between 80 to 200 lbs when fully grown. Mini pigs take 5 years to be fully grown and you can expect them to be the size of a large dog with short legs! Staying consistent with training, they make excellent family pets. Mini pigs are the 4th smartest animal and can learn over 20 tricks. Many are able to be trained to walk on a harness/leash combination. Mini pigs will need outside time as well and will need a safe place outside to root and be a pig. Inside, they do well with a soft bed, blankets, and the comfort of being a part of your family.

Neil had only lived in a house prior to rescue and was 100% pee pad trained... however, pigs really want and need to have outdoor time! He is currently in "pig heaven" in his foster home where he has a fenced in yard to explore and he loves when people come by to pay him a visit!

Neil will follow you around and loves attention. It doesn't take him long to flop on his side or back for a nice tummy scratch. Neil also loves to play with toys and balls.

Neil currently eats a diet of Mazuri pig food. He also will eat fruits and vegetables. He is neutered at this time, but pigs do need annual "spa dates" where they can get their hooves and tusks trimmed.

A home with a secure fenced in area is required for Neil at this time.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
