Meet Rawlson

Rawlson is a stunningly handsome, 2 year old, 37 lb Australian shepherd mix who loves to please his people, and needs a forever home. He has thick, fluffy, tri-colored hair, speckled paws, and beautiful, wild eyes.

Although a survivor of a horrific hoarding situation, Rawlson is amazingly well behaved. Mostly house trained, Rawlson had a single accident on his first night in his foster home. Since then, he has gone outside every time. He loves to play in the garden with the resident, senior dog. While his foster is at work, Rawlson does well both in a crate as well as in a dog safe room. Before his foster leaves for work, Rawlson gets a kong filled treat, topped with yoghurt! Rawlson is indifferent to peanut butter. At night, Rawlson sleeps on a dog bed in his foster's room. He loves to cuddle!

Outside, Rawlson loves walks, and will pull a little. However, he checks in frequently, understands stops, and will return. He continues to work on loose leash walking. Although he behaves well most of the time on walks, Rawlson can be reactive on leash. Ocasionally, he will growl and pull to get to another dog or person. With dogs he wants to meet them, but with some people he can be scared. With slow introductions however, once he understands that you mean him no harm, he is so friendly and sweet. He has met a 13 year old, dog savvy kid, and did well. At home, he is excellent with the resident senior dog.

Rawlson is a very smart dog and learns things quickly. While he will counter surf, he acknowledges off, and seems to know leave it. He has learned down, and will do so in a safe environment. We are working on proofing with distractions. He has also learned to calmly sit or lay down and wait while we have dinner. While he has not formally learned move and leave it, he clearly understands these commands. In addition, when inside, he comes when called.

He is not afraid of fireworks or thunder, but is wary of the vacuum and lawnmower. He also displays interest in toys, but prefers shredding cardboard boxes.

He has mastered stairs, and no longer growls at his reflection. Quiet in the house, he will bark outside.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
