A home with another dog and a fenced yard is required for Norman.

Meet Norman!

Norman was left behind at the shelter when his “breeder” owner no longer needed him. Now Norman is looking forward to living the real life of a cherished family member.

This sweet boy is painfully shy when it comes to people.  He will hunker down and hide initially and needs to find a home that will be very patient with him and give him time to adjust.

Norman needs to have a home with another dog as he will not walk on a leash or approach people without a canine companion to show him the way.

He'll now take treats out of my hands if my arm is stretched all the way out, and tries to get to the food and treats.  He's food motivated for sure.  Not food aggressive, though.  He does love his breakfast , dinner, and treats.  Bribery would probably go a long way.

He's found his beagle bay outside, especially when he wants to come in or somebody goes down the alley.  Still quiet in the house, with the exception of a few barks from his kennel while settling down.  Kennel is in the dining room and he probably still gets a little scared alone.  But, if I tell him to settle down, he does.  I still wouldn't trust him running free at night.

He seems to be housebroken.  We had 2 peeing accidents the first evening, but nothing since then.  If he starts wandering the house, I let him out.  He'll go back and forth through the doorway with me holding it open, which is an improvement from early in the week.

I think he gets toys, but sometimes thinks socks and magazines are toys.  Nothing major, just need to keep an eye on him and very gently correct. He seems to be a quick learner.

He's gone from hiding in the back corner of the bedroom all day to spending some time out with us.  He likes his kennel, now that he knows it's a safe space.

Overall he's a good dog, very gentle.  It will just take some time for him to trust and approach people.

If you have previously applied with us please email adoptionatmars@gmail.com  to reactivate your application with new interest.

We are a foster based rescue located in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. We do require adoptions to physically take place at our adoption center and do not provide transport of any of our animals. If you are not local to us we encourage you to look at rescues and shelters in your area as many animals are in need across the United States.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
