Meet Reba!
foster update:
Reba is the bravest, sweetest little girl! She is still tentative around people, and will shy away when approached, even by people she knows. But even though she is still frightened of the many new things she encounters in her new life, every day Reba works up all her courage and tries to face her fears, particularly when there is even the slightest chance her foster mom will pick her up for snuggling. Reba loves, loves, loves snuggling -- she loves to be held tight in her foster mom's arms, or wrapped in a warm fleece blanket, on the sofa watching tv, in the car, at the pet food store, or in bed at night -- Reba is absolutely, perfectly happy when she is snuggling with her foster mom, especially when her beautiful, silky golden fur is stroked, or her ears and head are rubbed. She will sleep on your lap for hours and hours on end, and every so often gaze up into your eyes. She is the most precious little dog. When not with her foster mom, Reba sticks close to another silky terrier girl fostered in the house named Nancee that arrived at MARS on the same day. Reba is comfortable living with the other small dogs that reside in the house, but has no real interest in any of them. Whenever Nancee is busy playing with the resident puppy, Reba will wait patiently nearby until they finish, with no interest in joining in the play but happy to be near her friend. Reba is still working on housetraining -- she sleeps throughout the night, but occasionally has accidents during the day if not supervised. She is a very small girl, and still a little bit too thin, but her appetite is improving, and she will never turn down a yummy bowl of cottage cheese when offered. She only has two teeth left, but kibble is no trouble (especially with a bit of that cottage cheese on top). Reba is not even close to being leash trained, but is slowly making some progress walking with a leash attached. She is starting to become more comfortable walking through the door when people are around, especially when it is cold outside! In short, Reba is working very hard to adjust to her new life, and is a joy to have around, but she'll need lots patience, love and understanding in her adoptive home. Reba is an adorable Silky Terrier that was used as a puppy mill breeding dog. She has been kept in a cage as a money making machine vs. living life as a well loved pet and companion. Reba was sent to the auction block where luckily there were some angels watching over her. Instead of being sold to another breeder, or worse...not selling and being disposed of, she was bought for rescue. Reba now has a second chance at life. She can finally learn what a loving home is - what kind words sound like and what gentle touches feel like. Reba would do best in a quieter home without young children and with another dog in the home that she can model after.
To adopt Reba, please complete one of our on-line applications by clicking on the adoption button below. Thank you! *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person! If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.
*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
