Description:
Tater! What a boy he is. Tater found himself in an overcrowded kill shelter after his owner passed away. He didn't do very well in the shelter environment, and then when his two siblings were rescued we knew this guy could not stay there one more day. He doesn't hold his sad past against anyone or feel sorry for himself. He is happy being in a foster home with his new foster siblings. Tater is about 6 years old. He is dog friendly and would probably do best in a home with other dogs. He is staying in a home that has cats right now, and he is doing ok with them, he will chase them if they run but leaves them be when they show him who is boss. Tater also isnt fond of very small children, so a home with kids over 12 yrs old would be best. He was treated really well in his previous life, to the tune of 120 pounds of love! He needs an active home with someone committed to helping him lose 20 pounds and give him lots of exercise. He loves tennis balls and strong leaders! Update from his foster Dad: When he first came into our home he was certainly curious of all the new smells and he kind of wanted his own space. He kind of did a deep in the throat yet soft growl if you leaned on him while he was on the couch, no snarling or showing teeth, just his way of saying please let me be. He didn't want any hugs, and belly scratches were certainly out... but a day later he was one with the pack and 100% comfortable with everything. He wakes me up in the morning by jumping into the bed at feeding time with our two. Hard to say no when a bear jumps on you and licks your face at 6am. Now that he's adjusted he is extremely playful and gentle, great catcher of tennis balls, likes to rest his head on my lap on the couch, doesnt mind loud music, doesn't mind my face in his, can be touched everywhere with no issues (tail, paws, ears, nose, etc..), belly rubs are now a favorite, and when I leave the room he is loyal and follows me everywhere. He was a bit head heavy playing with my dads 4 month old golden retriever pup but after a little testing the waters he figured it all out and they had a blast for the afternoon. I can't tell if he just likes toys or if tennis balls are his safety blanket but he has something squeaky in his mouth at all times. However he is always willing to give it up if you ask him to drop it or if you try to pull the ball out of his mouth to play fetch. No issues being fed with our two dogs at the same time, has been left in the house alone with free roam for 6 hours at a time while we're at work with nothing destroyed and no accidents. He is excellent on a leash and doesn't pull in the slightest... however we haven/t walked past another dog yet so that reaction remains to be seen. Hopefully nightly walks will help him shed a few pounds as he struggles in deep snow. He is to big to jump, he's more of a bulldozer. Speaking of shedding, he practically enjoys the brush attachment on our vacuum which makes grooming a breeze. Bath time was interesting... I have never tried to lift a 120lb dog into a tub. He just laid in front of it with sad eyes. But once he was in he waited until he had permission to get out. He truly is the perfect dog and has been very well trained. *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person! If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.
*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
