Reba the Brave – UPDATE!

Reba has come into our home and changed our lives forever.  It has been a true blessing to be a part of her recovery.  I think that the details about Reba and her healing process are a bit of a mystery so I want to give an update of how she really is around the house.

Day in the life of Reba:  We wake up and I carry her down the stairs and outside to go potty.  She can go up and down stairs but I usually carry her to make it easier on her.  She does great with either going potty on a pee pad, or going outside.  Next we do her morning medications and her breakfast.  She loves food and is even a little protective of it which we are working on.  She just likes to growl to make sure my two labs know not to mess with her breakfast!  Her medication goes down very easy when I wrap it in a piece of lunchmeat.  She is still on pain meds which will be cut down by half on Friday.  After physical therapy and breakfast, it’s back to bed!  I go to work and she spends the morning in bed with my husband.  She does not care what she is doing as long as she is with her people.  She likes to be with us so much that she will jump off the couch or bed when she shouldn’t just to follow you from room to room.  When I get home from work we do dinner, physical therapy, and night medications.  She loves to hang outside and watch what everyone is doing.  She will even chase the ball and play a little bit!  After that I hand out marrow bones to all three dogs and settle in.  I put Reba on the couch next to me with her bone and she stays there for hours either snuggling, working on her bone, or sleeping.  Then it is off to bed for another night of snuggling.  She sleeps through the whole night and stays right by my side the whole time.  You don’t have to worry about her doing too much on her back legs or getting into anything since she never wants to be without you.

Reba is such a good girl.  She gets around really well considering she just had surgery.  She walks great and can do stairs if needed.  She gets a little stiff if she does too much during the day but she is still healing and on pain medication.  Once she is completely healed and completed physical therapy, it will be amazing what a normal life she can have.  She will always have limitations, but don’t tell her that!

She wants to hang out with her person but she is not lazy at all.  She jumps up to bark when someone is at the door and loves to find out what you are cooking in the kitchen.  She cannot go running with you, but she is full of personality and loves to keep you company.

Reba would be a perfect companion for someone who lives in an apartment.  She goes potty either outside or on the potty pad.  She has a little bit of separation anxiety and does not want to be away from you for more than a couple of hours.  Someone who can hang out with her a lot and engage her without being too physically active would be perfect.  She has done great with my two 100 lb. labs but she would be just as happy by herself as well.  She loves play with toys and chew on bones in her dog bed.

Please consider giving Reba a place to call her forever home.  She will steal your heart. ♥

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
