Meet Thorin!

*Good with dogs
*Good with cats
*Needs an experienced owner

Thorin came to MARS as a dog who needed some TLC. He was found as a stray, underweight and heartworm positive. He needed the necessary treatment, which was painful and uncomfortable. His recovery has been awesome. He has gained approximately 10-15 pounds since he arrived at his foster home. He was skinny with his ribs prominent, now he is a healthy, active boy. Thorin did not understand the concept of play when he arrived, but now loves playing tug of war and keep away with his rope. He is also playing with small balls, but is leery of squeaky toys. I am sure he could play with these with more time and practice.

Thorin loves to play with and meet other dogs. We often take him to dog parks or have “doggie play dates”. He would love to live with another playful dog. He also gets along well with cats, we have two cats that he coexists with peacefully. Thorin also has a smile he greets people with, it is so cute! He has not yet mastered flights of stairs, and clumsily bounds up them, but can handle small sets of stairs.

Thorin can be grumbly and it took some time to learn which grumbles were simply him talking, and which meant he didn’t like something. He does not like the vet, and is growly. With a muzzle he can be examined just fine. He has settled well into a structured routine and needs a routine dietary regimen. He is housebroken, and does not have potty accidents inside, but has thrown up when his tummy is upset.

He is such a loving dog, and will be very dedicated and attached to his primary caregiver. He loves to snuggle and get his belly rubbed. He will do wonderful in a loving home with structure, and did great at the few basic obedience classes he attended. He would love to continue training and socilaization with our trainer or another trainer who understands the rottie breed. He is true to his breed and is such a loyal companion, but not the dog for everyone. He will thrive in a home that knows the breed well, he has come so far and overcome so much already. Everyday he shows how thankful he is with lots of love and affection.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
