Description:

Meet Avery!

Avery is a pretty girl who is friendly with people of all ages.   She loves attention and snuggling with people.   She gets along with the foster's other dogs and cat.  Enjoys their attention and snuggling.

Avery does well with a crate.  When not supervised, she has been confined to kitchen/dining room and has not had any accidents.
She rides well in the car and enjoys nylabones and stuffed toys.

Update from the foster home:

Avery is happy little girl who just finished raising a beautiful litter of 8 pups! My home is full of hustle and bustle and Avery is doing great with everyone and everything she comes across! She's been exposed to children (LOVES THEM), cats, other dogs (both considerably larger and smaller than she is) and even a rabbit! She doesn't chase the cats or the rabbit, plays and cuddles with the children and romps around with the other dogs. But her favorite place is cuddling next to her family and getting her head and belly rubbed.

She has been in a kennel when I've left the home, but she gets a bit anxious so I decided to test her on having free roam of the house and she's done really well. I just close doors to rooms and I don't want her to have access to and when I've come home she is either at the door "tail a waggin" to greet me, or sleepily waking up from a nap.

She's housebroken as well.  We've since got our communication figured out and she's been very reliable on going outside for her "business".

I do not have a fenced yard so I first put her on a tie out, then a very long leash, and finally off leash to see if she would run. She is not a runner, but she does like to explore. I think she could be taught boundaries as she is very responsive to "NO" and when she's gone just a bit past what I am comfortable with she's stopped when I said "NO" and started walking toward her. She's never bolted away or tried to make it a game of "come get me!". She's very smart and I think positive reinforcement training with something like a clicker and treats and she could learn just about anything!

Avery LOVES Nylabones - she is not strong chewer so one lasts quite a long time. She has 3 different types here and she rotates chewing on them. She likes stuffed toys as well.

Avery would be happy as an only dog or be an easy addition to a family with other dogs. She's pleasant, easy going and has been a joy to have in my home.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
