Description:
Ray is a GREAT dog who is patiently waiting for a family to call his own...Could it be yours?
  • 100 % Housetrained
  • He is free-roam day and night in no issues
  • Playful yet mellow
  • Treat motivated - willing to learn
Ray has excellent house manners!  He is 100% housetrained, with no accidents or intentional marking in his foster home.   He is free-roam day and night at his foster home with no issues.

He appreciates a nice dog bed or soft blanket to curl up on for his naps, and also enjoys sitting in front of a window or on the deck watching the world outside.  Ray is crate-trained, but will whine for a few minutes before settling down (a nice chew treat or Kong helps him settle down quicker).  However, because of his excellent house manners, Ray has the capability to be a free-roam dog once he knows his people and his home.  This sweet boy sleeps through the night soundly, in his crate if required, but would prefer a dog bed next to his human or even curled up in bed with someone (he is currently sleeping with one of the teenage boys in his foster home).  Ray plays with toys occasionally, and will chase after a tennis ball, stuffed toy, or Frisbee.

Ray is very mellow in the house, rarely barking except at an occasional noise or knock at the door.  He will politely ask for attention by leaning against your leg, or pawing gently on your knee.  He does enjoy a belly rub!  He understands "sit" and is learning other commands like "stay" and "come". He is intelligent and treat-motivated, so will do well with continued obedience training.  His current daily exercise routine is a 10-minute jog (with person on rollerblades), a 30 minute walk, and play time in the back yard either chasing toys or his four-legged foster sister.  He would make an excellent companion for a jogger or rollerblader, as he enjoys being able to trot along at a quick pace if possible.

Ray loves his walks and is excited when the leash comes out.  He is developing good leash manners with the use of a Gentle Leader Headcollar.  Ray has been on a few 3-hour car rides, and has handled them well.  After watching out the window for a while, he loves to settle down on the backseat or even on someone's lap.  In these travels, Ray has visited several homes and has continued to be an excellent guest, making new human and canine friends.  Ray does best when meeting new dogs if his humans help them properly introduce (that is, get a good long sniff) before they are allowed to start play time.  Ray would be fine as an only dog in the home, getting all the attention to himself.  However, he would also do well with another dog who has medium-to-low energy level, who wants to play with Ray a few times each day but also give him space during times of rest.

We have found that Ray gets nervous around very young kids and would do best in a home that has children over the age of 10 years of age.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
